We now have proof that Ralph Macchio and William Zabka are officially on set for Cobra Kai, the upcoming long-gap series follow up to 1984’s The Karate Kid.
Entertainment Weekly shared the exclusive photo of Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence sharing a handshake on the set, and frankly it warmed by cold black heart. Check it out:
Nothing groundbreaking here, other than the fact both of them look like they’re in great shape thirty years later. We’ve seen Macchio from time to time, but William Zabka has been way off the radar.
As for Cobra Kai, here’s the synopsis from EW:
Picking up 30 years after the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, the half-hour series finds Daniel and Johnny at different places in their lives. Whereas Daniel is living his best life as a family man and proud owner of the No. 1 car dealership in the Valley, Johnny has fallen a long way since the ’80s and is now a heavy drinking, short-fused antihero living in Reseda, doing odd jobs to make ends meet. However, their rivalry is reignited when they re-enter each other’s lives, which drives Johnny to rediscover his Cobra Kai roots and reopen the infamous karate dojo.
Hopefully they get the tone of this thing right. It could be a great deal of fun depending on how much the tongue is in the cheek and whatnot.
Cobra Kai will debut on YouTube Red in 2018, which might be enough to convince me to get YouTube Red.
