Suicide Squad Cast Photo Minus the Joker

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Director David Ayer got fans all stirred up Wednesday night when he release a group shot of the cast of Suicide Squad, sadly minus Jared Leto a.k.a. The Joker.

An all-star roster of actors has joined Warner Bros. Pictures’ new action adventure “Suicide Squad,” bringing DC Comics’ super villain team to the big screen under the direction of David Ayer (“Fury”). The announcement was made today by Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production, Warner Bros. Pictures.

The film will star two-time Oscar nominee Will Smith (“The Pursuit of Happyness,” “Ali,” upcoming “Focus”) as Deadshot; Tom Hardy (“The Dark Knight Rises,” upcoming “Mad Max: Fury Road”) as Rick Flagg; Margot Robbie (“The Wolf of Wall Street,” upcoming “Focus,” the “Tarzan” movie) as Harley Quinn; Oscar winner Jared Leto (“Dallas Buyers Club,” “Alexander”) as the Joker; Jai Courtney (“Divergent,” upcoming “The Water Diviner”) as Boomerang; and Cara Delevingne (“Anna Karenina,” upcoming “Pan”) as Enchantress.

In making the announcement, Silverman said, “The Warner Bros. roots are deep on this one. David Ayer returns to the studio where he wrote ‘Training Day’ and brings his incredible ability to craft multidimensional villains to this iconic DC property with a cast of longtime Warner collaborators Will Smith and Tom Hardy, and other new and returning favorites: Margot, Jared, Jai and Cara. We look forward to seeing this terrific ensemble, under Ayer’s amazing guidance, give new meaning to what it means to be a villain and what it means to be a hero.”

Ayer is also writing the script for “Suicide Squad,” which is being produced by Charles Roven (“The Dark Knight” trilogy, upcoming “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”) and Richard Suckle (“American Hustle”). Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder, Colin Wilson and Geoff Johns are serving as executive producers.

The film is slated for release on August 5, 2016.

Matt and EJ podcast

Never heard of Matt Sardo?
For starters, he made the Kessel Run in less than 11 parsecs. Prior to that, he gave Doc Brown the idea for the flux capacitor and led the Resistance to victory over SkyNet – all while sipping a finely crafted IPA. As a radio host, he’s interviewed celebrities, athletes and everyone in between. He’s covered everything from the Super Bowl to Comic-Con.

Who’s EJ Moreno?
Is he a trained physician? No. Is he a former Miss Universe contestant? Possibly. But what we know for sure is he’s a writer, filmmaker, and pop culture enthusiast. Since film school, EJ has written & directed several short films. He’s used his passion of filmmaking to become a movie critic for MonkeysFightingRobots.com.

See Patton Oswalt In Dude Bro Party Massacre III – Red Band Trailer

Monkeys Fighting Robots

5secondfilms released the red band trailer of their Kickstarter funded Dude Bro Massacre III today. John Francis Daley, Patton Oswalt, Larry King and Andrew W.K. make an appearance in this over the top throw back to 70’s slasher films.

DUDE BRO PARTY MASSACRE 3 follows BRENT CHIRINO as he enters the oil-misted halls of the DELTA BI THETA fraternity. Brent isn’t just any pledge… he’s a legacy. And it’s a legacy of death. See, Brent is here to solve the mystery of his identical twin brother BROCK’s murder, and he’ll do anything to crack the case… even attempt the frat’s most daring prank of all time.

After the Deltas’ senior prank causes two commercial jets to collide over an orphanage, they’re punished to a weekend at The Old Sorority House by the Lake. But they’re not the only ones there… a mysterious killer named MOTHERFACE lurks nearby. She knows the bros’ deepest fears… and she’s taking advantage of those fears to pick them off, one by shirtless one, in increasingly gory ways. It’s a race against time for Brent to discover the mysteries of his brother’s death before Motherface butchers them all!

But wait, there’s more! DUDE BRO PARTY MASSACRE 3 also features a softcore subplot, spliced in by the Filipino “producers!” Join Chico County’s own OFFICER SMINKLE as he investigates a rash of nudie trading cards featuring all the most bodacious sorority babes at East Chico University! Marvel as this gratuitous subplot somehow intersects with the main story!

Still not satisfied? What if we told you that this whole crazy package takes the form of a VHS recording that a Midwestern teenager made from a late-night broadcast in the late 80s? Which means you get the film, plus host segments, TV commercial parodies, fake news alerts, and more?

eBay Greed Ruins Record Store Day

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Michael Roffman over at CONSEQUENCE OF SOUND points out that the albums from Record Store Day are already on eBay nine days before the event.

“The majority of [RSD] listings on EBay in advance are people who DO NOT have the releases, but are listing titles (some that aren’t actually even coming out on Record Store Day, another [sign] they don’t have them in hand) in hopes of getting people to pay for them in advance,” Carrie Colliton, co-founder of Record Store Day told The LA Times. “Then they go out and try to fill the orders on Record Store Day. We think selling something you don’t have in your possession and can’t guarantee you will have is fraudulent.”

record-store-day-ebay

Record Store Day was conceived in 2007 at a gathering of independent record store owners and employees as a way to celebrate and spread the word about the unique culture surrounding nearly 1400 independently owned record stores in the US and thousands of similar stores internationally. There are Record Store Day participating stores on every continent except Antarctica.

This is a day for the people who make up the world of the record store—the staff, the customers, and the artists—to come together and celebrate the unique culture of a record store and the special role these independently owned stores play in their communities. Special vinyl and CD releases and various promotional products are made exclusively for the day and hundreds of artists in the United States and in various countries across the globe make special appearances and performances. Festivities include performances, cook-outs, body painting, meet & greets with artists, parades, djs spinning records and on and on. Metallica officially kicked off Record Store Day at Rasputin Music in San Francisco on April 19, 2008 and Record Store Day is now celebrated the third Saturday every April.

While there’s only one Record Store Day a year, the organization works throughout the year to create contests, special releases and promotions in order to spotlight these special stores on the other 364 days of the year. These include the Adapter Prize—which honors releases chosen as “The Best” by store staff and customers and Back To Black Friday which gives record stores exclusive releases as part of the attempt to redirect the focus of the biggest shopping day of the year to the desirable, special things to be found at local stores.
