‘Mystery Science Theater 3000’ Kickstarter Reboot

UPDATE: MST3K Kickstarter hit its goal in less than a week.

Joel Hodgson, the creator of Mystery Science Theater 3000, launched a Kickstarter campaign Tuesday to film one more season of the show. Hodgson’s goal is to raise $2 million for three episodes, but if the campaign reaches $5.5 million, they will create a season of MST3K.

“I think there’s a place for us. Nowadays, riffing is everywhere! Many people claim that MST3K created a shift in the way people watch “TV shows,” and that now, as a result, the fields of entertainment have been plowed and readied for a riffing renaissance,” said Hodgson.

At the time, this article was published the campaign had already raised $427,756 in a half a day.

Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy (Tom Servo) and Bill Corbett (Crow) will not return to reprise their roles on the show. Hodgson told Entertainment Weekly that he will recast the show, but alumni would be invited back to possibly produce, write, and make cameos.
