HBO’s ‘Wizard of Lies’ Gets Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert De Niro, Barry Levinson to Direct

Wizard of Lies, the new HBO movie about criminal finance guru Bernie Madoff, is moving forward with Barry Levinson set to direct, according to the report at Deadline. Robert De Niro will star as Madoff, where Michelle Pfeiffer will play his wife, Ruth.

Joining De Niro and Pfeiffer will be Alessandro Nivola (American Hustle, Face/Off) as Mark Madoff, Bernie’s son who committed suicide following Madoff’s indictment.

Wizard of Lies will be based on the novel by Diana Henriques which, according to the Deadline report, is “a look behind the scenes at Bernie Madoff’s massive Ponzi scheme, how it was perpetrated on the public and the trail of destruction it left in its wake, both for the victims and Madoff’s family.

There are no details regarding the debut of Wizard of Lies on HBO, but expect it to hit some time in 2016.
