HBO had already announced three things regarding the upcoming third season of True Detective. One, it was starring Mahershala Ali (Moonlight/Luke Cage) as a Nebraska police detective named of Wayne Hays. Two, it will tell the story of a crime in the heart of the Ozarks and a mystery that spreads over decades and plays out in three different time periods. And finally, that writer David Milch (Deadwood) whould be writing one episode (series creator Nic Pizzolatto will be penning the rest).
The Hollywood Reporter has now announced that Green Room writer/director Jeremy Saulnier has officially signed on to helm all episodes of season 3.
Personally, I think this is amazing news. Green Room was my favorite film last year, and Saulnier’s film before that, the gritty revenge movie Blue Ruin, was also fantastic. The filmmaker has a talent for capturing tension and mood on an intimate scale that could bring back the excellence of that first season of True Detective.
