A new line of formal wear launched at Hot Topic today, and it’s more than meets the eye. The “Gotham Knights” line premiered exclusively online and at Hot Topic locations, according to Hollywood Reporter.
When Cosplay Becomes Everyday Wear
In the last few years, “closet cosplay” and more specifically “Disneybounding” have become massively popular. Early last year, the website Unique Vintage launched a page on their site for outfits chosen because they looked like Disney costumes. Her Universe adopted this concept several years ago with Marvel and Doctor Who designs.
The Gotham Knights collection takes that concept to a new level, with both masculine and feminine formal wear that represents various DC characters. The collection currently includes dresses, ties, blazers, and button-downs, representing the Joker, Harley Quinn, Batman, Wonder Woman, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy. The only character represented on both sides of the masculine/feminine line (for now) is Batman.
According to Hollywood Reporter:
“The Gotham Knights collection, which launches in stores and online today, is Hot Topic’s first foray into formal wear but is by no means the only partnership that the City of Industry-based retailer has had with studios. Recently, it partnered with Disney on men’s and women’s wear inspired by costume designers David Crossman and Glyn Dillon’s creations for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”
Prom season is still a few months away–what geeky property would you like to see given the formal wear treatment?
