It seems that season eight will make good on the promise that the finale of the plodding seventh season made: Alexandria, the Kingdom, and the Hilltop are going to war with Negan and the Saviors. This should be a welcome relief to fans, many of whom were put off by the endless buildup to the inevitable conflict between Rick and Negan last year, as evidenced by the show’s lowest ratings in years. The trailer promises one hell of an action-packed season, and hopefully AMC, the cast, and the crew deliver on it.
Also discussed during the show’s panel at SDCC – which was attended by Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes), Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon), Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Negan), Lauren Cohan (Maggie Rhee), Danai Gurira (Michonne), Melissa McBride (Carol Peletier) , Lennie James (Morgan Jones), Chandler Riggs (Carl Grimes), Seth Gilliam (Father Gabriel), Alanna Masterson (Tara Chambler), and Khary Payton (King Ezekiel) join executive producer and showrunner Scott M. Gimple, executive producer and creator Robert Kirkman, executive producer Gale Anne Hurd, executive producer Dave Alpert, and special effects makeup supervisor and executive producer Greg Nicotero – were season seven, what it was like filming the show’s landmark 100th episode (which serves as the premiere this Fall), and hints of what’s to come in season eight. The panel also opened with a moving tribute to John Bernecker, the stuntman who died on set on July 12th in a stunt gone wrong.
Season eight of The Walking Dead premieres October 22nd on AMC.
