The upcoming season of the Starz original series Black Sails will be its last.
The network announced Wednesday that the pirate drama will end with season 4, The Wrap reports.
Black Sails takes place twenty years before the Robert Louis Stevenson classic, Treasure Island.
Creator Jonathan E. Steinberg said in a statement:
“It’s a rare privilege in television to be given the kind of creative freedom we’ve enjoyed on this show over the last four years. While it was a difficult decision for us to make this season our last, we simply couldn’t imagine anything beyond it that would make for a better ending to the story nor a more natural handoff to Treasure Island. We’d like to thank Chris, Carmi and everyone at Starz for all their faith and support, and to our astounding cast and crew for joining us on this ride.”
Black Sails has been one of most successful original series for Starz, scoring multiple Emmy nominations.
The network has several other original series in its lineup including, Ash vs. Evil Dead, Outlander, Survivor’s Remorse and the highly anticipated American Gods.
Season 4 of Black Sails returns in 2017 with 10 episodes.
