Marvel Comics released a teaser trailer for Marvel Legacy #1 on Friday, and the final five seconds of the video held some intrigue?
“Marvel legacy also features a surprising unexpected return of a big Marvel icon, that will make it an absolute must-read for all Marvel readers,” said Tom Brevoort, the SVP of Publishing at Marvel Comics.
Who do you think the icon is? Some comic book industry insiders speculate below.
Miracle Man
“If Marvel really wanted to go left-field and surprise readers with a ‘returning icon,’ they could introduce Miracle Man into their universe. There was a lot of buzz around them purchasing his rights several years ago, but seemingly not much has happened with him since. But the safe bet is probably more along the lines of a Tony Stark or original Jean Grey or Wolverine return,” said journalist Roger Riddell.
Fantastic Four
“If Legacy is going to right the Marvel ship with a returning character, the perfect candidates would be the Fantastic Four. This would be a healthy choice for both fans and the 616 universe itself given how empty it feels without the ‘First Family,'” said Monkeys Fighting Robots’ Brandon Griffin.
“I’m not certain whether Marvel is willing to take this gamble but if the company really want to make a statement with their MARVEL LEGACY, they could bring the Fantastic Four back into prominence. This would signal an attention to the history of their brand back to the days when Stan Lee and Jack Kirby created the team in 1961 ,” said Aaron Young of Comicsverse.
Tony Stark
“The preview for ‘Invincible Iron Man’ 593 teases the return of Tony Stark. The book is one of series “spinning out of Marvel Legacy,” so it’s possible that ol’ Shellhead is the “icon” returning in the one-shot,” said MFR Editor Anthony Composto.
