The summer is almost over and the back to school specials have already appeared in stores. With another month down it’s time to look at the different titles which are coming to Netflix and pick the geeky titles you need to check out. There are some big releases this month to keep you entertained you as summer comes to a close.
Addams Family (August 1st)
“They’re creepy and they’re kooky,” and this remake of the classic TV series is one of the few remake which still hold up over time. Watch as the late Raul Julia gives an over the top performance as Gomez Addams and Christopher Lloyd is almost unrecognizable as Uncle Fester. You’ll definitely find something to enjoy from this 90s comedy classic.
The Matrix (August 1st)
The movie which redefined action movies and how we look at the world comes to Netflix. If you haven’t taken the red pill and seen the world for what it truly is then you owe it to yourself to check it out. Just make sure you just watch the first movie instead of the entire trilogy. Actually, the second movie isn’t as bad as people think it is. The third film though, yeah, it’s a bit harder to defend.
Small Soldiers (August 1st)
This forgotten film from the 90s has an interesting premise and features an all star cast. Well, yeah it kind of like Toy Story but in live action. But this movie has Tommy Lee Jones as the main antagonist, Chip Hazard. Yes, I know the soldiers are cooler than the Gorgonites but…look just watch the film, it’s pretty entertaining.
Sleepy Hollow (August 1st)
Johnny Depp as Ichabod Crane, a constable trying to investigate the murders behind the Headless Horseman, sounds like a winning combination. Turns out while looking this up, this isn’t the first time this movie has been on this feature. Come on Netflix, just leave the film up. It will give other titles more attention on this article.
Sing (August 3rd)
Looking for an animated movie featuring with an insanely catchy soundtrack? Then check out this film featuring some very entertaining songs which will have you singing along. Sure it isn’t the best film featuring anthropomorphized animals on Netflix right now as Zootopia is available. Still, after you take the time to watch Zootopia and are still in the mood for more animals acting like humans, then give this film a chance.
Voltron: Legendary Defender: Season 3 (August 4th)
Activate Interlocks! The third season of this Netflix original will arrive and you know you are going want to check it out. It features the coming of Zarkon’s son Lotor to finish the job his dad started of trying to destroy the universe. And if you aren’t waiting around for this third season, it probably means you haven’t taken the time to enjoy one of the best animated series to come out in a while.
Wet Hot American Summer: 10 Years Later (August 4th)
If you watched Wet Hot American Summer, a movie which parodies every summer camp film ever made you really should. It’s hilarious. Afterward binge the netflix original series, Wet Hot American Summer: The First Day, which served as a prequel to the film. Again, insanely funny. Then, if you haven’t laughed yourself to death then it’s time to check out this new series from Netflix which will continue the story of the campers of Camp Firewood.
My Little Pony Season 7: Part 1 (August 8th)
Wow. This show made it to seven seasons and has become the longest running show from a Hasbro product. Impressive to say the least. With the movie coming out later this year, you’re going to want to probably want to stay up to date on this show and make sure you didn’t miss anything important.
Marvel’s The Defenders (August 18th)
The long awaited team up of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist will finally arrive on August 18th. Though the mini-series will only be eight episodes long, there is no doubt each will be packed with so much action you won’t have to worry about being bored. So mark your calendars now and look forward to it.
Death Note (August 25th)
A live action Americanized version of the widely popular Japanese Manga is coming to Netflix. Watch as a young man finds a book which causes anyone whose name he puts into the book to die violently. Who knows, maybe if it’s popular there will be more American adaptation of Anime in the future. As long they don’t make the American version of Akira.
