Whoopi Goldberg was the first black actor to win an Emmy, Oscar, and a Tony, and a Grammy as well. Her two Emmy awards were for shows hosted rather than roles acting. She completed the “EGOT” collection in 2002 with her first Emmy and her Tony.

She is also perhaps the only person of the many whose belief in her potential as an actress was inspired by Star Trek’s Nichelle Nichols (Lt Uhura) who became a cast and crew member herself.
