Tom Hardy is the latest name rumored to be appearing in Star Wars.

The Oscar-nominated actor is certainly no stranger to iconic franchises with his prior involvement in Mad Max: Fury Road, The Dark Knight Rises, and Star Trek: Nemesis (During The Next Generation era).

Hardy spoke to The Hollywood Reporter while promoting his BBC series, Taboo and his latest film, Dunkirk, reuniting him with Nolan. They spoke about his love of playing villains:

[blockquote]“Of course. And I play a lot of scary blokes, and there are probably a few reasons why. First, villains are much more interesting than hero leads, who are, for the most part, really boring. The thought of going into work day in and day out to play someone who is just mind-numbingly boring fills me with dread, so I don’t bother. Another part of it is when I was younger I remember being frightened a lot — of being small and skinny and vulnerable and feeling that I could have been preyed upon easily. So, everything that I play is what scared me.”
The role Hardy’s rumored to play is a cameo as a stormtrooper, who’s familiar with Finn’s (John Boyega) past. When asked about it, his answer was cryptic.
“I don’t know if I can even say that. Ah, the internet is a glorious web of deceit and misinformation, isn’t it?”
When pressed further if it’s misinformation, Hardy responded, “It could be, couldn’t it.”

As mainstream as Star Wars is, Lucasfilm is not above having high profile cameos as current James Bond, Daniel Craig played the stormtrooper coerced by Rey to release her restraints in The Force Awakens. Simon Pegg also made a cameo in costume as Unkar Plutt, Rey’s junk dealer.

If Hardy’s in Episode VIII, what kind of role would you want him to play, one-off character or supporting character?
