Teaser – ‘Christopher Robin’ Not the Live Action Winnie the Pooh Expected

Disney pulls a wicked tease for the live action Winnie the Pooh.

No one can claim Disney’s not resourceful when it comes to their franchises especially given the unassuming nature of their latest teaser trailer of Christopher Robin.

The best way to describe this teaser is that it’s essentially a mix between Hook and Ted. In the beginning, we have no names really mentioned and man (Ewan McGregor) facing the difficulties of everyday work. While he’s not mentioned by name initially, we see him in a bleak mood before he’s greeted by a familiar voice, who calls to him. “Christopher Robin.”

It’s Winnie the Pooh (voiced by Jim Cummings), Robin’s childhood bear friend from the Hundred Acre Woods coming to visit him in the real world. Naturally, the CG Pooh resembles more the original look that author A. A. Milne envisioned than his animated Disney form. The film may have taken inspiration to how the live action Paddington Bear was designed for this film. One glaring question is if Pooh and his friends will interact with anyone in the real world besides Robin.

As we see Robin and Pooh talk, we see friends reunited again with Pooh wittingly responding to Robin’s remark about “cracks”.

While there are going to be fans who enjoy to see Pooh and his friends on the big screen again, it continues the trend of Disney creating live-action versions of their most popular animated franchises. Disney already saw success with the 2017 live action Beauty and the Beast with Emma Watson. They’re also currently developing a sequel to Mary Poppins called Mary Poppins Returns with Emily Blunt and live action versions of Aladdin, Mulan, and The Lion King.

Directed by Marc Forster, the film stars McGregor, Hayley Atwel, Chris O’Dowd, Toby Jones, Peter Capaldi, Brad Garrett, Sophie Okonedo, and Nick Mohammed. The film comes to theaters August 3.
