There looks like there’s light at the end of the Saralacc pit for the standalone Boba Fett film following the departure of director Josh Trank.
What was once on the schedule at Lucasfilm was temporarily shelved in favor of Han Solo: A Star Wars Story. Omega Underground spotted a production listing for the Boba Fett film suggesting the film is under still some stage of development and will be filmed in London like the other Star Wars movies from Disney.
[blockquote]”An origin story if the galaxy’s most notorious bounty hunter. Boba Fett is a Mandalorian warrior who was trained by his father-figure, Jango Fett and became a notorious bounty hunter throughout the galaxy.”[/blockquote]
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said the Boba Fett film is high on their priorities in an interview with Kotaku Japan in May 2015.
[blockquote]“Don’t worry: Boba Fett is a high priority among our list, please wait. It is quite difficult to give the many stars of Star Wars their own stories on film.”[/blockquote]
Of what little we know of Boba Fett is he’s the son of Jango Fett (Temuera Morrison), who met his end at Jedi hands. He’s also the bounty hunter, who took tracked the fleeing rebels in The Empire Strikes Back and took the Han Solo encased in carbonite to Jabba the Hutt in Return of the Jedi.
Disney has plenty of time to sort out the details on who will be directing the film with Episode VIII wrapping production and Han Solo slated to start shooting in February.
Given the little screen time Boba Fett’s had in the Star Wars universe would you be interested in seeing a standalone film? Personally, I rather see an Obi-Wan film since he’s far more developed or a Mace Windu film.
