Selma Blair joins original Hellboy star Ron Perlman among those who were not pleased when the reboot was announced.
Blair, who talked to Cinema Blend about her new film Mom and Dad, played pyrokinetic Liz Sherman in the Guillermo del Toro-directed films Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army. She expressed disappointment the third film was never shot to complete the trilogy.
“God, you know, people are fans of Hellboy and also fans of Guillermo. So part of us, the ones that were so loyal to Guillermo, our hearts are broken that it didn’t work out with the greatest third installment ever written that I wish I could play more than anything in the world.”
Blair wished nothing but the best to director Neil Marshall (Game of Thrones, Westworld) and Stranger Things’ David Harbour, who will star at the title character in the reboot.
“I truly hope that [creator] Mike Mignola has his vision out there for the darker Hellboy come to light, and I’m sure he will, and David Harbour is excellent and everyone involved, but no my heart is broken.”
The reboot will have an R-rating and will be more true to the Mignola comic.
When asked on a Reddit AMA discussion, Perlman said he discussed the role with Harbour and he’s “made peace with it” adding “I refuse to answer and questions about it.
Costarring with Harbour will be Milla Jovovich as the antagonist Blood Queen, Ian McShane as Professor Bloom, Daniel Dae Kim as Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense agent Ben Daimio and Sasha Lane as Alice Monaghan.
The Hellboy reboot is slated for a January 11, 2019 release.
