As always, Americans (and many other westerners) confuse quantity with quality. "The Force Awakens" could not have a more apt name. Because it's "A New Hope" on steroids. A forced rehash of a movie. Lots and lots of parts is just blatantly borrowed/stolen from the first made Star Wars movie (which is "A New Hope"). Ok, yes, it can be seen as a great homage to the oldest and first SW film. But a totally new set of ideas wouldn't hurt.

When Jackson remembers his time in the Star Wars films, his memories are probably the way I feel when I watch the Anti-Cheese edits which turned the prequels into good films. Like Hayden Christensen, who thinks the prequels are better, they remember them as important parts of their lives. So it's understandable that not being a part of this new lineage feels as disconnected to them as OT fans felt disconnected to the prequels. Now they know how we felt. Haha. But I love Sam Jackson. He's right. There are no lightsaber schools in the NT (new trilogy). The Hateful Eight is amazing, too. Sam Jackson needs an Oscar.

The saber fights were the least of the problems with the film. It is visually flawless and has the look and feel you want, but it is intellectually and emotionally bankrupt 100% because of the weak story, plot holes the size of asteroid fields, and rehashed story elements stolen from the defunct and dishonored EU. They threw away 30 years worth of story to give us a hotter mess than that 6 breasted truffle-shuffle champion in jabbas palace.

Jackson needs to work on his logic skills. The ONLY one in the film of the main cast who has had any Force training are Luke and Ben (Kylo Ren). Luke is obviously absent for 99.99% of the movie. We're introduced to Rey and Finn who are both obviously foreigners to the ways of the Force (and Rey only BEGINS to tap into her abilities). NEITHER have so much as TOUCHED (even less SEEN) a light saber prior to their battle against Ben. SO WHAT does Jackson expect?! This is a RAW movie, taking place 30 years after Episode VI. Without Luke to continue teaching the ways of the Light Side, there really shouldn't be high expectations unless it was shown earlier (and it wasn't) that Finn or Rey have had some kind of prior formal training. Only Rey shows any kind of defensible skills in melee and Finn struggles to adapt to what might SEEM like untapped "natural" piloting/blaster skills (granted, Rey was piloting the Falcon at the time). Finn holds his own for his first time with the Light Saber which is remarkable for a first-timer. Still, to expect more is silly.
