Thank you for taking the time to read and comment! I am glad you enjoyed the review!

It is definitely a film worth checking out. Even though many reviews (including my own) are negative, we (the critics) are simply pointing out that the film’s inconsistencies outweigh its merit. That being said, also being a life-long moviegoer, the film is far more enjoyable than it could have been. If you go in not expecting the quality of the MCU, but something more akin to 2005’s Fantastic Four, it is a good time.

You make some very good points. I agree that the redemption arc for Eddie Brock was weak. Instead, the film chose to paint Brock as a martyr for the truth. On paper, this seems like a good idea given the current political climate, but in execution, it did not turn out well.

I share many of the feelings you so eloquently expressed throughout this article. The most biting adversary this titular anti-hero faces is, in fact, his own lack of a coherent identity. (Eddie Brock is presented as too much of a working-class hero to possess a solid redemption arc— whilst Venom is too latent to provide anything substantial until the revelation of his true motivation near the end of the story.)

One cannot fault a film for trying, but in this case— the simple truth is that this particular symbiote needed more Marvel synergy to bond with.
