these movies need to stop making it the Kirk show and admit that Spock is the real hero of this trek and his story is simply more compelling. It's really bad how much of his story is wasted in favor of other things that are just not worth this sacrifice.
It also is unforgivable how Lin has wasted Uhura (and yes, her relationship with Spock, that is one of the most interesting aspects of new trek) to focus so much on guy-on-guy bromance and male characters. Jaylah is cool and a great addition but I wish she interacted with Uhura and the others more. Pegg obviously wrote a bigger part for himself and McCoy (whose actor apparently had a temper tantrum and didn't want to get back for trek 3 unless they gave him more screentime and bromance), and in spite of Uhura having a more important pivotal role in the story in more than one point, she gets less screentime and credit than the male characters and most of JJ's work to make her the third lead was undone to appease nostalgic tos fans that wanted the old all male trio back.
The movie also suffers an atrocious editing that obviously tortures some characters moments with abrupt cuts that are so blatant some people with the dvds will believe they have a bad copy of the movie.
