I would argue that the people in Re:Zero's world are all socially the same as Subaru's world. I'm not talking about value's so much as personality, so unless the show wants to present characters who act the same as Subaru and make it a normal thing for this world, then that would make sense. But it doesn't. I only used the term "ostracized" for Tomoko, and used the word punished for Subaru. I don't think Subaru is broken enough to be a loner(As he is in the story) but for no one ever call out or react on his weirdness, thats my problem. I was just emphasizing how Subaru never really faces social opposition (other than that scene at the palace, which is horrible in other ways), in comparison to a show that does. It was an example of the show's wish fulfillment nature. As for Subaru's confession of worthlessness, I never bash him as a character or say its unbelievable. His confession isn't really relevant to what I'm saying about the nature of the show and how it deals with his eccentric(I could use more harsh words but I wont) personality.

Acting outside of the social norm doesn't always result in someone being ostracised, while it is true in most cases, it depends on how the society regards those behaviours. Subaru's eccentric behaviour combined with his cheerful attitude and confidence are different inherently different from watamote, which are the stereotypical depiction of social anxiety.

Different 'environment' also plays a major part in determining people's reaction towards a certain behaviour. While watamote is located in japan, specifically in a japanese school, where everyone in the society are heavily judgemental (asian culture is fundamentally judgemental), Rezero's main premise which is located in a fully fantasy faraway world can't really be used as a comparison. 'Social Norm' differs from place to place, might not be one on the other side of the earth, in this case it doesn't apply to the world of rezero, they have different social norms and laws to us (it's a world of swords and magic, are you going to complain about the glorification of violence and murder in that anime next?).

Also remember how Subaru confessed and cried to Rem how Subaru amounted to nothing back in Japan? That scene itself implies a lot about his situation back on earth. He never even once thought about going back, he had never remembered nor missed anyone. He probably wasn't even well liked or even ostracised back at school.

It wasn't a comparison of character it was a comparison of environment. Subaru and Tomoko both act outside the social norm but only one is punished for it realistically. I never once compared them as characters. Slow your roll bro.

Just had to point out that your comparison between Tomoko from Watamote and Subaru is completely absurd and should honestly be removed. On one side you have Tomoko who is so socially awkward that she literally cannot speak to strangers normally or even come close to holding a conversation, and on the other side you have Subaru who almost seethes confidence, while perhaps saying things that might be weird, he can talk normally and at length with people he has just met. It boggles my mind that you can make the smallest comparison between the two; one crumbles into a mess at the thought of talking to others, while the other speaks his mind confidently in a way that even puts others at ease. Such a ridiculous statement leaves me to almost completely disregard the rest of the review due to just how incredibly wrong it is! Do you seriously not see the difference between the two?
