Thirteen reasons I despise this show:

1) This show is causing havoc in schools across the country and even the world; the effect is so pronounced it is called the Baker effect.

2) Mental health experts told Netflix this could happen..they were ignored.

3) The show is supposed to be a "realistic look at suicide" but the plot is so insane that I was literally laughing..and I lost a sibling to suicide. Hannah gets drunk at a party and sees a friend rape another friend who was so drunk she was passed out; then she gets a ride home with someone who "barely drank anything". The non drunk girl hits and knocks over a stop sign..and gee she is drunk! When Hannah wants to call the police, her friend leaves her alone (with no cell service) on a dark street. Hannah gets to a store calls 911 and learned the incident has been reported multiple times. Even though she saw a rape at a party that is probably still going on, when asked if she has anything else to report she calmly says "no". We later learn a student on that intersection went into a street and hit another car; the driver was seriously hurt and the student was killed. The story directly tells us the driver probably wasn't drunk.. even his car would have had to jump the stop sign that fell in the intersection to get onto the main street. This trivializes the serious issues the show claims to address.

4) Only once is going to the police even mentioned... and that was to report the traffic accident. One of Hannah's friends knew she was making suicide tapes and even helped her; the friend did nothing. We see a boy photographing many people illegally, a fight on campus with serious injuries, a girl getting drunk between classes, a student with massive scars from cutting and of course several rapes.

5) Mental illness is addressed..there is no other way to describe Hannah's behavior. But it is never mentioned as a factor in her suicide.

6) It is clear that anyone who was ever less than perfect in dealing with Hannah are supposed to be blamed..even the high school she attended.

I lost a sibling to suicide and these are both horrificly irresponsible messages!

7) Everything that happened to Hannah is treated as equally traumatic. A friend that moved away said if she had not moved Hannah would still be alive; it is implied her leaving Hannah is almost as bad as the rape she experienced.

8) All adults are clueless assholes. The principal refuses to deal with a fight on campus that caused a serious injury. The guidance counselor tells Hannah to just deal if she was raped. It is clear no parent has the slightest clue what their kid is doing.

9) All of the students are also clueless assholes. No one tells Jessica she was raped even though she could be pregnant or have an STD and no one makes the least effort to reach out for help.

10) The theme is supposed to be ""be nice to everyone"!

11) Hannah never really died; she gets to see the revenge fantasy she had come to fruition and even learn her crush loved her. Of course that romantizes suicide. It also makes it unclear that it was a final choice.

12) The show has become the most important show in at least a generation; anyone critical of it is assumed not to care about any of the issues it addresses.

13) The show aggressively pushes the idea that bullying killed Hannah. It ends with a scene that implies a student will shoot up his school..and with massive buzz about a sequel. Are we next supposed to believe everyone around the school shooter caused him to snap and shoot up his school?

I found this television show extremely triggering because i am a liberal and i am easily offended by suicide and other triggering things. I am extremely offended that your review did not align itself with all of my personal opinions but instead put in your own entirely subjective personal opinions. My biggest problem with the show was its lack of diversity, especially regarding the race/sexual orientation of Babadooks. The fact that you did not also take issue with this proves that you are indeed a bigot, mr reviewer man. How about you stop being a cis white male for a little bit and poop your pants instead. I give this review a final score of 1.3/10 Babadooks.
