I find it quite the phenomenon in this country that throughout life the intelligent are vilified while the elements of strength and wealth are celebrated. Nothing wrong with strength, nothing wrong with wealth.But then again, nothing wrong with intelligence, either. Yet we see in schools that the smart kids are called geeks and spurned and bullied by the stronger athletic set and the privileged set of higher wealth in the school. In later life we as a society value those who can pretend well (actors) and those who can get a ball from one place to another far more highly than we value school teachers, firefighters, and police officers. Again, nothing at all wrong with being an athlete or an actor, but why is America so down on being smart and contributing to your society’s well being? We struggle to get funding for schools and for medical and scientific research while we pay athletes and actors millions. In comics we have a combination of art and reading. Putting down those who have the intelligence to understand and enjoy the ten dollar words and the graphic arts of comic books is just another link in the chain of vilifying intelligence.

Interesting once again proving people are judgemental though he could have left the common out about like Trump again judgemental…live and let live within the polite , common courtesy that use to be expected and required of adults. Bill Maher’s opinion is just that, so unless he holds a importance in your life who cares what he thinks. Enjoy your hobby.

That’s what bothered me, too, was the entire rant was from ignorance, which he has pointed out on his show endless times, is the wrong stance to take.
Are comic books literature? The man didn’t even bother to find out. He worked on his own presumptions. He could have easily googled “comic book literary awards” and gotten a quick insight into the world of literature. Comic book wins a Hugo? Hugo changed the rules for a while to stop that from happening again.
But it’s even worse.
He equated comic books to the “children’s section” of the industry that used to do the exact same thing to him. Comedians were once the lowest form of entertainment. And now, with Bill’s help, they just may be again.

I think a better take down is bringing up the fact that Maher said all that after promoting a book by Ann Coulter. Who is both part of the reason we have trump and juvenile.

I would hasten to also point out that Mahar promoted the comic book “March” on his show, a bio comic about the life of congressman John Lewis, which he didn’t call juvenile. Also wasn’t bill in iron man3?

Kinda funny the man mocking marvel was cut from one their films. That’s right if you did not know bill maher was in iron man 3. But was cut from the movie. Maybe he is bitter. Google bill maher Ironman 3 and amwatch the video. Ironic. He tried to profit off of those he mocks.
