New Trailer for ‘Logan Lucky’ is Either Brilliant or Just Bizarre

The official trailer for Steven Soderbergh’s latest has just dropped, and the only word that truly describes the feel for it is ‘bizarre’. Channing Tatum reunites with the Magic Mike director to revisit the Ocean’s 11 concept, but with a sort of Dumb and Dumber-esque twist. Adam Driver joins Tatum as his brother, and who would have ever thought this pairing could be so organic.

Even with absurdly fake accents, it’s undeniable the two are having a blast. The Redneck Robbers are supposed to be from West Virginia, and so am I. However, I don’t talk like that and neither does anyone else I know, so the intention behind that level of cultural appropriate is still to be determined. The whole ignorant hillbilly bit just rubs me the wrong way, but I’ll go in with an open mind for Jimmy Logan and his luxurious beard. Both Matt Damon and Michael Shannon were attached to the film and then bowed out, so take that with however large of a grain of salt you choose.

Aside from its director and story line, one other thing that’s been borrowed from the Ocean’s franchise is the use of a massive star studded cast. Although Daniel Craig seems to have the most dominant supporting role, we’re getting appearances from the likes of Katie Holmes, Hilary Swank, and Dwight Yoakum. The robbery takes place at Charlotte Motor Speedway, so if you’re a NASCAR you might spot some familiar sights.

So what do you think? Will you be tuning in to watch Channing Tatum and Adam Driver pull of a heist with beards? You can count me in out of sheer curiosity. Amazon snagged the first-run screening rights to this one, so if you don’t catch it in theaters make sure your Prime membership is up to date by early 2015.

Logan Lucky speeds into theaters on August 18th.
