On this episode of Mixed Tag Mayhem, TV Editor Tom Chang and Social Media Editor Kimberly Cook talk about the contestants of WWE’s Mae Young Classic and previewing SummerSlam 2018.
The Mae Young Classic brings contestants from NXT and all over the world from various promotions. Tom and Kim brought up the returning Kaitlyn, who was on the main roster before signing back with WWE for the tournament. Kim brought up American Ninja Warrior contestant Kacy Catanzaro, who made waves showing her athletic prowess in the face of arguably TV’s most grueling obstacle course.
Tom speculates perhaps Catanzaro may follow in the footsteps of another former reality athletic star-turned wrestler, Rico Constantino, who had a run with WWE from 2002 to 2004. Other contestants of note include: Allysin Kay and Ashley Rayne, who were most recently in Impact Wresting under Sienna and Madison Rayne, respectively; Hiroyo Matsumoto and Io Shirai from Japan, Mia Yim from South Korea, Mercedes Martinez from the US; and Toni Storm from Australia. While the matches are being taped for later broadcast, Tom and Kim predicted Storm to win this year’s tourney.
When predicting SummerSlam matches, both agreed Roman Reigns will finally win the WWE Universal Title off Brock Lesnar in a mercifully short match. Alexa Bliss will retain her Raw Women’s Championship over Ronda Rousey. Samoa Joe could be the one who ends AJ Styles reign as WWE Champion.
The Bludgeon Brothers will likely retain over The New Day. Kim predicts Kevin Owens will win Bruan Strowman’s Money in the Bank contract, whereas Tom sees a Braun victory. Kim thinks Seth Rollins will win back his Intercontinental Title off of Dolph Ziggler, whereas Tom says Ziggler will retain in upset.
Both agree Carmella could weasel her way to retaining the SmackDown Women’s Championship to fend off challengers Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair in the triple threat match. Kim likes Drew Gulak over Cedric Alexander for the Cruiserweight Title, but Tom disagrees. Kim predicts Jeff Hardy will win back the United States Championship from Shinsuke Nakamura, while Tom thinks Shinsuke needs the title more to maintain status.
Both see a Finn Bálor victory over Baron Corbin in an entertaining match. Daniel Bryan is expected to go over The Miz. Andrade “Cien” Almas and Zelina Vega will go over Rusev and Lana. The match wasn’t announced yet at the time of recording, but both agree the B-Team will triumph and retain their Raw Tag Team Championship over The Revival?
Any predictions for both events you have? For those who follow taping results of MYC, no spoilers please.
