Netflix dropped the trailer for season 2 for Luke Cage today and while it does look more of the same, it’s looking like it’s sticking to the familiar formula for tone to pick up where it left off of last season.

The first initial scenes look like Luke (Mike Colter) accepting his fame as a powered superhero saving the day even providing some self-aware moments when criminals shoot into his unbreakable skin offering the “Really?!” look to the dumbfounded faces.

We also see brief shots of Shades (Theo Rossi) and Mariah Dillard (Alfre Woodard). Mariah seems to be turning more into the alpha crime boss she’s been meant to be.

We’re also introduced to a new villain, John McIver/Bushmaster (Mustafa Shakir). Bushmaster is powerful enough to make Cage bleed with his mystical powers. We also find out he’s as bulletproof as Cage is.

Also making their return is Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson) and Misty Knight (Simone Missick), who help Cage again. We find Temple helping to ground Cage when facing the adversity of dealing with McIver. Misty gets more physically involved aiding Luke with her bionic arm.

The trailer closes out with a meta moment when Misty and Luke discuss who’s taking lead and he reminding her whose show it is.

One last person of note is the talented Reg E. Cathey, who plays Cage’s father. He filmed his role prior to his death in February. He’s always to joy to watch on the screen and it will be interesting what wisdom his character provides Cage.

The twists and turns of the first season made the show must-see TV, but the presentation from the trailer of the second season looks to be more traditional. Looking forward to being pleasantly surprised for what’s in store for the show.
