I am a high school teacher in Jersey City and I teach at the real h.s. that is mythologized in Ms. Marvel (irl McNair Academic, MU Coles Academic).

If you ever want to do a Skype with your students and mine, I would love to do that. I have been looking for other teachers who use Ms. Marvel, but most are on college-level. My guys are Junior and Senior honors / AP students.

Our interacting with the book is different, as we see the “mainstreaming” that happens to try to make the particular universal. (For example, getting an Eid in the last story arc, but it wasn’t the Eid that was currently happening when the book was published.)

If you are not aware of the collection of critical essays Muslim Superheroes: Comics, Islam, and Representation that just came out this July, might make for some good readings to go with your discussion. It is waiting for me at B and N, haven’t read it yet!
