Fisher and Lee to honored at D23.

Disney is celebrating some of the biggest icons within their franchises when Carrie Fisher and Stan Lee will be among the honored for their hall of fame at the 30th Annual Disney Legends Award Ceremony.

Fisher, who passed in December 2016, will be inducted posthumously and will be sharing the honor with her Star Wars costar , Mark Hamill, who will also be inducted.

Fisher and Hamill played their signature roles as the Skywalker siblings, Leia and Luke for the Star Wars franchise for Lucasfilm. They’ll be appearing in six of the nine episodic films. There’s no word in what capacity Fisher’s role will be in Episode IX, but her brother did confirm.

Disney bestows the honor to anyone who’s built their legacy either for the company itself or a company  that is now part of their family even before the acquisition.  Fisher and Hamill will be honored as  pioneers with Lucasfilm. Similar will be said of Stan Lee and Marvel.

As a leading creative force at Marvel and frequent cameo favorite, Lee has had a hand creating some of Marvel’s most signature heroes in Iron ManThe Incredible Hulk, The X-Men. He’s appeared in most Marvel films including all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’s also appeared in most of the Marvel films outside of Disney in Sony’s Spider-Man franchise and the FOX Cinematic Universe.

Joining Fisher, Hamill and Lee are Oprah Winfrey, the late director Gary Marshall, director Julie Taymor, Manuel Gonzales, Wayne Jackson, and Clyde “Gerry” Geronimi.

The ceremony will be July 14 at the D23 Expo.
